I don't have Microsoft Office. How can I open a Word Document?

Most scripts are sent using the popular word processing program from Microsoft, Word, which is part of the Microsoft Office suite. The file format that the script is in is called a .doc or .docx. Microsoft Office is a business tool and not included on personal computers. As such, you would need to purchase Microsoft Office from your local computer and electronics store or order a copy from an online retailer.  

There are several free alternatives that will allow you to open these files, make edits and even export in the .doc format.

Consider Open Office or LibreOffice. These are free alternatives to Microsoft Office. You can install the software on your computer, open virtually any text file and export or save as .doc Word files.
